Description

Laura Holmes Haddad ’97, who lives in the Bay area, will be in LA the weekend of November 5-6 for events related to her book, This Is Cancer: Everything You Need to Know, from the Waiting Room to the Bedroom, which was recently included in the Quarterly and will be released in mid-October.

The SCCLA is happy to be hosting a special reading and Q & A with Laura on Sunday, November 6 in the afternoon! THere will be an opportunity for Smithties in the Health Care Industry to network, and all Smithties to learn about Cancer, a disease that affects us all differently.

Book Description: Cancer is indiscriminate. It cares little for class, creed or color. Its patients are literally everywhere. When Laura Holmes Haddad was diagnosed, she discovered shelf upon shelf of overly-earnest, somber, gray survival books, and knew there had to be a better way. This Is Cancer is the thoughtful, informative fabulous-looking result for those who prefer their pathos with equal parts humor and reality and a touch of flair. A “what to expect when you’re expecting” book for the diagnosis you don’t want but are stuck with, This Is Cancer is the book that patients keep in their “heading to the hospital bag,” because it’s the only one that tells them what’s going on and keeps them company.

Also, Laura will also be doing a reading at Diesel, A Bookstore, in the Brentwood Country Mart on Thursday, November 3 at 6 p.m. and she would love to see some Smithies in the audience. If you can't make it on Sunday, please stop by.
